
Duncan MacKillop provides technical expertise for Aries in the areas of chemical engineering and polymer science.
He is a research scientist and chemical engineer with over forty years experience in the development of patented industrial materials and products. He served as Manager of Dunlop Tire Ltd.’s North American research and development activities, including technology transfer from Universities and other companies.
As a private consultant during the past twenty years he has worked with companies to develop patented products, provide technical and business information and support for litigation and licensing arrangements.
Duncan graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Physics and Chemistry and received accreditation in Ontario as a Professional Engineer. He attended the Industrial Research Institute study course on the Management of Research at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business.
Duncan has been involved in entrepreneurial activities that resulted in the establishment of new companies. With Dunlop he initiated the creation of Dunlop Construction Products Ltd. and served on the Board of Directors. In collaboration with Dr. Gordon Bunsick, he assisted in the creation of Gait-Aid Inc. a Canadian company involved in the design, manufacture and marketing of orthotic devices.
Duncan worked in the production research environment at Polysar Ltd. in the application of mass spectrometric and infrared analyses of hydrocarbon feed streams, and the synthesis of stable latex materials.
As a consultant Duncan provided support to the Johnson and Johnson companies in the manufacture of rubber gloves and condoms. With Ortho Pharmaceutical Ltd. he was involved in research on novel polyurethane film products and in improvements of intra-uterine devices. Duncan has had a long-term assignment from the US Army in the development of improved military equipment rubber components.
Duncan is a Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada and served as the founding secretary of the Macromolecular Division of the CIC. He is a former trustee of the Licensing Executives Society, former Chairman of the High Polymer Forum, and member of the Advisory Committee of Sheridan College of Arts and technology, and company representative to the Industrial Research Institute.
